On Thursday 7th June 2018, Cumberland Council Lord Mayor, Greg Cummings and Parramatta Council Lord Mayor, Andrew Wilson toured Mastercom to see first-hand how, after 50 years, the critical communications leader is keeping their staff and the community connected and safe.

For half a century, Mastercom has supplied NSW emergency services, all levels of government, transport, ports and airports with mission-critical and day-to-day operational communications, ensuring when communication is paramount, the technology and services are there to make every message heard.

From humble beginnings in 1968 – a small office space at the back of Cumberland Cabs, Granville (now Premier Cabs) – Mastercom has gone from strength-to-strength delivering cutting edge communications technology. The business has shared not only boundaries (48 years within the Parramatta boundary, 2 years Cumberland boundary), but also relationships with both Parramatta and Cumberland Councils for the most part of their history.

A proud Western Sydney business, trainer and employer, Mastercom’s innovative and adaptive technologies have helped some of our key local organisations effectively deliver services for the community, such as immediate distress calls for mobile cleaning and events staff who find themselves in difficult or dangerous situations. Mastercom’s technology is also used to collect street sweeper data and pin-point garbage truck locations, ensuring accountability and allowing councils to offer real-time information to residents.

Under the direction of Managing Director, Hamish Duff since 2001, Mastercom has been able to do what some in the sector have not – move with the times and innovate with the technology at hand, while also looking to the future. Mastercom is providing more coverage, more features, more safety with this technology than ever before with less reliance on cellular devices and, importantly, lower costs.

When asked his thoughts about the company reaching such a major milestone, Hamish said, “I began my career with Mastercom in the 80s, straight out of school, so it’s with great pride I see the company hit its half-century. For 50 years the team here have dedicated ourselves to product innovation and we are known for providing our customers with the highest quality critical communications infrastructure, support and services available in NSW”.

“Throughout 2018/19, we will be reflecting on what we have achieved and our plans for the future. We’ll keep investing in world class technology and bring only the best possible hardware, software and service to our customers around the State”.

In an era where technological advances are announced daily, and businesses come and go, Mastercom has proven tried and true two-way-radio technology is what keeps our State – and our councils – running.
